The sculpture, crafted by artist Hilde Mæhlum, is intended to bring joy and wonder to both residents and travelers.
The polished front of the sculpture is actually reversed! The nose goes inward! From our first year, the brain has learned that people's noses protrude and eyes are within. But if you take a step back, relax, and squint, the brain takes over and corrects the wrong. The nose comes out and your brain creates the sensible version of the sculpture - inside you! And perhaps even stranger: if you slowly walk past while looking at the sculpture all the time, it follows you with its eyes. If you stand east of the sculpture, it looks eastwards, if you stand west, it looks westward! It is thus rightfully named "Vidsyn".
Hiking description:
The hike starts at Vierli Cafeteria at the underpass beneath the county road. Follow the marked hiking trail to the top of Vierli Peak (1100 meters above sea level). Here, you will find the Vidsyn sculpture. Continue along the path over the ridge towards Oksatjønn. The trail is partially gravelled and transitions to a dry path. There are a few marshy areas along the way with footbridges. The trail is well-marked and can be extended by taking the circular route through Silkeldalen (4 km).
