An easy, family-friendly round trip with views of Hardangervidda and Gaustatoppen. Sherpas from Nepal have built the stone stairs that provide a truly unique nature experience. The hike starts at the top of Krossobanen.
Hike Description
- You start the hike at the upper station of Krossobanen and follow the gravel road for 800 meters up the long slopes to "Verdens ende" (World's End). From there, turn left across the parking lot to the bottom of the stone stairs. There are resting benches along the way. Follow the stone stairs all the way to the top - to the viewpoint at "Kanonstillingen" (Cannon Position) at 1110 meters above sea level. Here, you can enjoy a fantastic view into Hardangervidda and explore the remains of a German cannon position from World War II.

Try the "Solsekken," a hiking backpack with small bags containing exciting activities. You can find the numbers of the bags on small, round wooden plates along the trail, where it's a good time to do the activities. Look for the wooden plates right from the start! You can borrow the Solsekken for free in the wagons at Krossobanen.
Who can find the most different plants? Bring a plant folder from Krossobanen, check off and compete with a friend!

How to Get to Solstien
From Rjukan town center: Follow RV 37 towards Rauland. After about 2 km from the tourist office/torget, follow the signs to the right towards Krossobanen. You can park for free at the lower station of Krossobanen. Take the cable car up to the upper station at Gvepseborg, which is the starting point of the hike. Timetable: Krossobanen

Steep slopes at the beginning. Remember to bring a carrier for small children on steep slopes!
