Krossobanen (Engelsk)

Take the Krossobanen cable car to Gvepseborg and hike the stone-paved, family-friendly trail called Solstien (The Sun Path).

Krossobanen is the first cable car in Northern Europe, built in 1928 as a gift from Norsk Hydro to the residents of Rjukan, allowing them to reach the sun during the winter months.

The lower station has a large parking lot. From there, the cable car takes passengers up to an altitude of 886 meters. The ascent takes about 5 minutes. It is recommended to take a walk at the top station. From there, you will enjoy magnificent views of Rjukan, Gaustatoppen, and Vemork.

From the upper station, hundreds of cyclists embark on a journey across Hardangervidda to Kalhovd Tourist Cabin. The 30 km route is well signposted and suitable for cyclists of all ages.

Solstien (The Sun Path)

Solstien has also become a very popular hiking trail suitable for all ages. It is a 1.1 km stone-paved path that leads to the so-called Kanonstillinga (Cannon Position).

Here, you will find remnants of German cannon positions from World War II, along with magnificent views.

From the upper station, follow the gravel road up to the first bend, about 800 meters. Then, follow the signs for Solstien, and you will soon see the stone-paved staircase.

Solsekken (The Sun Backpack)

New this year is the "Solsekken" (The Sun Backpack). Two backpacks are hanging in each gondola. Each backpack contains 5 tasks that children can solve along the way.
