Go in the footsteps of the saboteurs!
Almost 70 years ago, the heroes of Telemark followed this trail on their way to blow up Vemork and prevent Hitler from developing the heavy water atom bomb.
|8 km||Demanding||3-5 hours|
The trip starts at Rjukan Fjellstue, about 11 km from the center of Rjukan.
From Rjukan Fjellstue you follow the gravel road a little bit across Hjerdalen. Then go hiking in varied forest and hiking terrain.
Along the way there are information boards that tell you a little about the story when Norwegian saboteurs emerged from Hardangervidda, and down the steep gorges of Vemork to blow up the heavy water factory.
The trail is 8 km long and takes about 2.5 hours. The peculiar nature makes the trip an extraordinary experience. The trail is well marked, with some steep descent towards the end.
Good footwear is a requirement. On rainy days, boots are recommended as the trail can get wet and somewhat muddy.
The easiest if you have your own car is to park in the parking lot of the Norsk Industriarbetermuseum (Vemork) on Våer, as you will end up here. Go up to the main road and take the bus that goes to Rjukan Fjellstue.
