Try your hand as the operator of Krossobanen (cable car) for a day, or try one of the water slides at the Rjukan Bath. There are many activities for kids along the Hardangervidda National Park Route!
- Play in the water indoors and outdoors at the Rjukanbadet
- Try being the operator of Krossobanen
- Participate in the milking of cows or cuddle a lam at Selstali Seter
Day 1 Rjukan – Selstali Seter, 18 km
Start the day at Rjukanbadet – a sure winner for the whole family. The baths have a new outdoor section for both children and adults, with a children’s swimming pool and connected play area, comfort pool, jet stream, countercurrent jets, thermal spring and bubble beds.
Rjukanbadet has the following indoor facilities:
– family section with play area and a teaching swimming pool
– youth section with 1, 3 og 5 meters diving boards
– climbing wall
– six 25-metres swimming pool lanes and 2 water slides
– hot pool, jet streams and jacuzzi
– steam bath and sauna
– cafeteria, solarium and exercise room
2 km west of the Rjukan Baths you will find the Krossobanen (cable car). Krossobanen has two cars: the Cranberry and the Blueberry. The journey to the top takes approximately 5 minutes.
Maybe you will be lucky enough to get the chance to be the operater and drive the car to the top. You will even receive a diploma with your name as proof that you are a “certified operator” of the Krossobanen – Rjukan.
At the top we recommend a trip to the observation point where you will find a telescope to enjoy the views of Rjukan, Vemork and Gaustatoppen.
Accomodation at Selstali Seter
The day is nearly at an end after a good time in the swimming pool and an aerial ride with Krossobanen. Continue the drive westwards to Krokan and follow the signs towards Selstali Seter for a night on a traditional Norwegian mountain farm.
Day 2 Selstali Seter – Rauland, ca 45 km
Spend the day at Selstali Mountain Farm where the children can participate in the milking of cows, cuddle the lams, or assist in the production of farm foods.
If they have not had enough of animals, bring the children to the Children’s Mountain Farm at Vierli. You will pass Vierli after approximately 35 km in the direction of Rauland. Here the children can get to know goats, rabbits, ducks and other animals.
At Vierli you will also find some of the children’s favourites at the playground, such as:
– ”The tractor Little Fergie”
– go-cart bicycles
– “bouncy castle”
Why not spend the night in a family room at Rauland Vandrerhjem.
Day 3 Rauland
Visit Telemarkstunet, a cosy courtyard, known as a tun, encircled by copies of old houses from Rauland.
It has a craft market, cafe and stone oven bakery. In the bakery, the whole family can enjoy freshly home-baked goods.
The children can also have fun with stilts, a tightrope, or the nature trail. They may also play with our resident goats Bø and Bæ.
Don’t forget to do canoeing at idyllic Uvatn. At the Vierli Kafeteria, the family can rent row boats and canoes.
